parking during the wine tours

Hi Rebecca,

My wife and I will be joining you for a couple tours in a couple of weeks. We will be staying at a hotel outside of Florence in Chianti and renting a car. Can you recommend a place to park the car in Florence during the day while we are on the tour?

The medieval streets of Florence are not exactly ideal for the traffic demands of the 21st century and recent national and local initiatives to reduce traffic in the centre of Florence have included banning access of cars during working hours and increasing the charges on parking and the enforcement of these rather steep parking charges.
From 7.30 p.m. to 7.30 a.m. it is possible to park in the ZCS overnight and in the 'yellow' parking spaces paying a special lower rate using the 'gratta e sosta' tickets available from various sales points. It is a special advance ticket parking scheme Scratch and Park, valid for both night and day parking and automated charging parking meters have been placed in seven points around the city.The automatic slot machines are in operation 24 hours a day and are situated in Via Jacopo da Diacceto, Viale G. Matteotti, Piazza Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, Piazzale Donatello, Piazza di Verzaia, Lungarno Torrigiani, Piazza Piave. Hotels guests can receive an even better deal with the Scratch and park hotel tourist parking available at the reception of most hotels. The price is Euro 8* for 24 hours parking in special areas.
